Candy Corn ingredients: what's banned overseas?

Parent company: Jelly Belly Candy Company / Brach's (Ferrara Candy)

About Candy Corn

Candy Corn is an iconic US confection made primarily by Brach's (Ferrara Candy/Mars) and Jelly Belly, sold at grocery chains, mass retailers, and seasonal displays predominantly during fall and Halloween. It is one of the most widely distributed seasonal candies in the US, generating hundreds of millions in annual sales.

Common concerns with Candy Corn products

Candy Corn contains artificial dyes Yellow 6 and Yellow 5 for its characteristic tri-color appearance, along with high-fructose corn syrup, carnauba wax, salt, and natural/artificial flavors. The Brach's version specifically uses Yellow 6, Yellow 5, and may contain Red 3 in some seasonal varieties. These dyes require warning labels in the EU, and Red 3 was formally banned in the US for food use in early 2025.
