California passed Assembly Bill 2316 in 2024, banning six artificial dyes from public school food starting 2027. Most US states have not. Most parents do not have 20 minutes per shopping trip to read every label on a fruit snack pouch.

This scanner is the shortcut. Hold your phone up to a barcode, get an instant Safe / Caution / Avoid score, see a safer-brand swap if needed. Use it in the aisle, at the Costco haul, or while online-grocery-ordering at 11pm.

Frequently asked questions

Does California really ban food dyes in schools?
Yes. California Assembly Bill 2316 (signed September 2024) prohibits Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2, and Green 3 from foods served in public schools, taking effect at the start of the 2027-28 school year. Other states are following.
What about the federal school lunch program?
The USDA National School Lunch Program does not currently prohibit artificial dyes or most banned-overseas additives. Individual states, districts, and schools set their own ingredient rules.
