Cheez-It ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: Kellogg's / WK Kellogg Co.
About Cheez-It
Cheez-It is the best-selling cracker in the US, produced by WK Kellogg Co. and sold at virtually all US grocery chains and mass retailers. The brand offers original, extra toasty, reduced fat, and numerous flavored varieties. Cheez-It crackers are made with real cheese and marketed as a satisfying snack option for all ages.
Common concerns with Cheez-It products
Cheez-It crackers contain TBHQ (tertiary butylhydroquinone) as a preservative in the vegetable oil blend — TBHQ is banned from food in Japan and was linked by EWG researchers to immune system disruption in a 2021 study published in Environmental Research. TBHQ has GRAS status in the US and EU but is not permitted in Japan. Cheez-It also contains soybean oil, enriched flour, and multiple processed dairy derivatives.
