Crest ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: Procter & Gamble
About Crest
Crest toothpaste, produced by Procter & Gamble, has faced scrutiny for its use of titanium dioxide as a whitening agent. While titanium dioxide was banned as a food additive in the EU in 2022, its status in cosmetics and toothpaste is under ongoing review. The EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) issued an opinion in 2021 stating it could not rule out genotoxicity for titanium dioxide in products applied to mucous membranes — a concern directly relevant to toothpaste. Crest also previously contained plastic microbeads (polyethylene), which were banned in the EU and UK.
