Dannon ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: Danone North America
About Dannon
Dannon is one of the most recognized yogurt brands in the US, produced by Danone North America and sold at grocery chains and mass retailers nationwide. The Dannon lineup includes Activia, Oikos, Light & Fit, and Two Good sub-brands. Danone has stated that fewer than 2% of its US portfolio contains FD&C certified artificial colors.
Common concerns with Dannon products
Dannon Light & Fit yogurts contain sucralose and acesulfame-K as artificial sweeteners, and some products have contained carmine (a natural red dye derived from cochineal insects, which can trigger allergic reactions), sucralose, potassium sorbate, and artificial flavors — five of which are banned by Whole Foods Market as unacceptable ingredients. Light & Fit Greek yogurt was reformulated to remove Blue 1. Dannon Fruit on the Bottom contains modified food starch, carrageenan, and gelatin as thickeners.
