Fanta ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: The Coca-Cola Company
About Fanta
Fanta is a line of fruit-flavored carbonated soft drinks produced by The Coca-Cola Company and sold globally. US Fanta varieties (Orange, Grape, Strawberry, etc.) have historically differed significantly from European Fanta formulas in their use of artificial dyes and sweeteners. It is sold at grocery chains, mass retailers, and restaurants across the US.
Common concerns with Fanta products
US Fanta Orange and other varieties have used artificial dyes — including Yellow 6 in Orange Fanta — that are not present in European Fanta, which uses real orange juice and no synthetic dyes. The difference between US and EU Fanta is one of the most cited examples of transatlantic food ingredient disparities on social media. Coca-Cola committed to removing synthetic dyes from US Fanta by the end of 2025 under FDA pressure. HFCS is also used in the standard US formulation.
