Fritos ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: PepsiCo / Frito-Lay
About Fritos
Fritos is a corn chip brand produced by Frito-Lay (PepsiCo), one of the most iconic snack brands in the US since 1932. The original Fritos contain just three ingredients: corn, corn oil, and salt. Flavored varieties include Chili Cheese, Flamin' Hot, and BBQ. Fritos are sold at virtually all US grocery chains and convenience stores.
Common concerns with Fritos products
Original Fritos are among the simplest and cleanest chip products in US retail with just three whole-food ingredients. Flavored Fritos — especially Flamin' Hot and Chili Cheese — contain artificial flavors, MSG, disodium inosinate, and in some cases artificial dyes. Flamin' Hot varieties with red coloring historically used Red 40 though Frito-Lay's 2025 reformulation is phasing these out.
