Great Value ingredients: what's banned overseas?

About Great Value
Great Value is Walmart's flagship private-label food and beverage brand, covering thousands of SKUs including cereals, snacks, condiments, frozen meals, and beverages sold exclusively at Walmart stores across the US. It is one of the highest-volume store brands in American retail. As of late 2025, Walmart announced plans to remove 11 synthetic dyes and 30 additional additives from all Great Value products by January 2027, with roughly 90% of products already dye-free.
Common concerns with Great Value products
Prior to the 2025–2027 reformulation, many Great Value snack, cereal, and beverage products contained Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Blue 1 — dyes linked to hyperactivity in children and subject to warning labels in the EU and UK. Some products also used potassium nitrate/nitrite (in processed meats), azodicarbonamide, and artificial sweeteners like neotame — all being phased out by 2027. Shoppers should verify individual product labels during the transition period.
