Jif ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: The J.M. Smucker Company
About Jif
Jif is the best-selling peanut butter brand in the US, produced by The J.M. Smucker Company and sold at grocery chains, mass retailers, and club stores nationwide. Jif holds the dominant position in the US peanut butter market and offers creamy, chunky, natural, and various reduced-fat varieties.
Common concerns with Jif products
Standard Jif peanut butter contains fully hydrogenated vegetable oils (not PHOs, but fully hydrogenated rapeseed/soybean/cottonseed oils) and added sugar as the third or fourth ingredient, used to achieve a smooth texture and sweetness. Rapeseed oil (canola) may also be present. Natural Jif has a cleaner profile. The original Jif formula's use of processed oils and added sugar differentiates it from natural peanut butter, though it does not contain artificial preservatives or dyes.
