Kool-Aid ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: Kraft Heinz
About Kool-Aid
Kool-Aid is a powdered drink mix brand owned by Kraft Heinz, producing flavored drink mixes sold at grocery chains and mass retailers across the US since 1927. The brand covers classic powder packets, liquid drink mixes, and ready-to-drink pouches (Jammers). Kool-Aid is one of the most widely recognized US children's beverage brands. Kraft Heinz announced in 2025 plans to remove artificial colors from Kool-Aid by 2027.
Common concerns with Kool-Aid products
Kool-Aid powder mixes contain Red 40 and other petroleum-derived synthetic dyes as primary coloring agents — in some measurements, Kool-Aid delivers among the highest concentrations of synthetic dyes per serving of any commonly consumed US beverage. Tropical Punch and Berry Blue varieties contain Red 40 and Blue 1. Kraft Heinz committed in 2025 to removing artificial colors from Kool-Aid and Jell-O products by 2027. HFCS or sugar depending on variety is also a concern.
