About Monster Energy

Monster Energy is the second best-selling energy drink brand globally, produced by Monster Beverage Corporation with a Coca-Cola distribution partnership. Monster is sold at grocery chains, convenience stores, club stores, and mass retailers across the US, with hundreds of product SKUs across the Monster Energy lineup. It is heavily marketed to young adults and teens.

Common concerns with Monster Energy products

Standard Monster Energy drinks contain B vitamins, taurine, caffeine, glucose, guarana extract, and natural flavors without synthetic FD&C dyes in the original green can variety. However, Monster offers many colored flavors (Ultra Pink, Ultra Fiesta, etc.) that have contained artificial colors including Red 40 and Blue 1. Monster Energy uses sorbic acid and benzoic acid as preservatives — sodium benzoate is restricted in beverages containing ascorbic acid in some countries. Very high caffeine levels are a primary concern for young consumers.
