Nature Valley ingredients: what's banned overseas?
Parent company: General Mills
About Nature Valley
Nature Valley is one of the best-selling granola bar brands in the US, produced by General Mills and sold at virtually all US grocery chains, mass retailers, and club stores. The brand spans crunchy bars, soft-baked bars, protein bars, and trail mix bars in dozens of flavors. It is marketed as a natural outdoor/active lifestyle snack.
Common concerns with Nature Valley products
Nature Valley bars have been the subject of a 2012 lawsuit for using high-maltose corn syrup and maltodextrin while marketing products as '100% Natural.' EWG and food researchers have flagged glyphosate residue in Nature Valley oat-based products. Some varieties contain BHT as a preservative, high added sugar, and natural flavors with undefined sourcing. The 'natural' marketing has been challenged in court as potentially misleading.
