Smarties ingredients: what's banned overseas?

Parent company: Smarties Candy Company

About Smarties

Smarties are small pastel-colored pressed sugar candy rolls produced by Smarties Candy Company, sold at grocery chains, dollar stores, and convenience shops across the US since 1949. They are one of the most popular Halloween candy staples in the US. Note: American Smarties are different from the chocolate button candy called Smarties sold in Canada and the UK (those are Rockets in the US).

Common concerns with Smarties products

American Smarties are actually one of the cleaner mass-market candies: they are certified vegan, gluten-free, and notably free of artificial dyes — colors are derived from natural sources. The primary ingredients are dextrose, citric acid, calcium stearate, and natural and artificial flavors. Artificial flavors remain a minor flag. No BHA, BHT, or petroleum-derived colors are used.
