Snickers ingredients: what's banned overseas?

Parent company: Mars Inc.

About Snickers

Snickers is the best-selling candy bar in the US and one of the top chocolate bars globally, produced by Mars Inc. It contains chocolate, caramel, nougat, and peanuts and is sold at grocery chains, convenience stores, and mass retailers worldwide. Mars has announced plans to transition its candy brands away from artificial dyes.

Common concerns with Snickers products

Snickers contains high-fructose corn syrup in the caramel and nougat components, along with multiple refined sugars. The US formula uses artificial flavors and hydrogenated palm kernel oil in the chocolate coating. Some Snickers varieties contain PGPR (polyglycerol polyricinoleate) as a substitute for cocoa butter — an emulsifier not found in traditional chocolate. Mars announced in 2025 plans to eliminate artificial dyes across its candy brands including Snickers.
