Trix ingredients: what's banned overseas?

About Trix
Trix is a brightly colored, fruit-flavored puffed corn cereal produced by General Mills, sold in the US since 1954. It is one of the most recognizable children's cereals, featuring multi-colored corn puffs. General Mills reformulated Trix with natural colors in 2016 but reversed the decision in 2017 due to sales decline, returning to artificial dyes. It is sold at virtually all US grocery chains.
Common concerns with Trix products
Trix is heavily reliant on artificial dyes — the current US formula contains Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 1, and other FD&C certified colors to produce its signature multi-color appearance. These dyes require warning labels on food packaging in the EU and UK and are subject to phaseout pressure from the FDA in 2025–2026. General Mills' 2025 reformulation commitment targets these dyes, but the transition is ongoing.
