Tyson ingredients: what's banned overseas?

Parent company: Tyson Foods Inc.

About Tyson

Tyson is the largest US meat processor, producing chicken, beef, and pork products including fresh, frozen, and processed lines under the Tyson brand. Tyson is sold at virtually every US grocery chain and mass retailer. In September 2025, Tyson announced plans to remove HFCS, sucralose, BHA, BHT, and titanium dioxide from its branded products by end of 2025.

Common concerns with Tyson products

Prior to the 2025 reformulation, Tyson processed chicken products (nuggets, strips) contained BHA, BHT, and in some varieties titanium dioxide as a whitening agent. Some Tyson seasoned products used artificial flavors and modified starch. The 2025 commitment is significant — Tyson removed these additives from its entire branded product line before year-end. Fresh Tyson chicken products (unprocessed) have minimal additive concerns. Consumers should verify updated labels on processed/breaded Tyson items.
